The Hotel Belmar is owned and operated by the Belmar family. It is a typical mountain hotel, consisting of two Austrian Chalet style buildings with wood paneling and French doors. We offer spectacular views and personalized service in a comfortable, rustic, atmosphere combined with the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Their philosophy is centered in nature, delicious and nutritional meals. In appreciation of Costa Rica 's natural heritage, meals are homemade (bread, granola, marmalade) with ingredients produced within the country, most locally (dairy products, coffee, fruits, and vegetables). Our decoration features works of Costa Rican artists, handcrafters, and photographers.
    

    Tourism in Monteverde started with the need to lodge family and friends of the Quaker community who came to visit from the United States . Another reason, was the variety and uniqueness of species found at the Monteverde Preserve which attracted a lot of scientists and biologists who came to make their studies and investigations. Many of them stayed in Monteverde and today are a part of our community. Their research helped spread Monteverde's name as an ecological destination. First for a very specific kind of tourist, and now more diverse.
